Our commitment with sustainability goes a long way. Using a natural and renewable raw material is only the beginning. Amorim’s sustainability also focuses on the production process, making it a green and sustainable one.
Reincorporation of waste
Amorim Cork Flooring has implemented an integrated production process, through which it ensures reuse of all cork waste and surplus, by collecting, granulating and reincorporating it in the production process, leading to a lower carbon footprint.
There are therefore no forms of cork waste or residues, giving a new dimension to the old maxim that “nothing is lost, everything is transformed”.
Biomass
Because nothing gets lost at Amorim, even the cork dust that results from the production lines is vacuumed and conducted to silos where it is burned to generate energy through biomass. More than 60% of the energy consumed in Amorim’s factories is obtained from burnt cork dust, in a process that is carbon neutral.
Closer distances and clean harvesting
The bark extraction is a manual process, which doesn't require the use of pollutant machinery. Also, our cork treatment and storage facilities are close to the forest, so we are able to minimize our carbon footprint in this initial step of the process.
